This past March, Annabelle Dyer of our Bass Connections team traveled to
Virginia Beach, Virginia to attend the 54th Annual Benthic Ecology Meeting (BEM 2026), held March 1–4 at the Cavalier Resort. The conference brought together researchers from across the country to share the latest advances in marine benthic ecology, spanning topics from oyster reef restoration to coral reef resilience and coastal ecosystem function.
Why BEM?
The Benthic Ecology Meeting is one of the premier venues for marine benthic science and has a strong tradition of supporting student researchers. For our team, it was a valuable opportunity to present our work with the greater scientific community, receive feedback on our poster, and connect with colleagues tackling similar questions about coastal ecosystem health and restoration.
What's Next
We are excited to continue sharing our findings at future conferences and through peer-reviewed publications. Stay tuned to this blog for updates on where we are presenting next and what we are learning along the way.
